Taiwan Blog: August 2019

Sorry I am so late with this blog. I’ve been really busy lately. I did a lot during August. I traveled all over Taiwan. I visited Taitung, Hualian, and Kending. I got to race Go Karts, eat great seafood, and see some amazing scenery on Taiwan’s east coast. I made the August vlog a few weeks ago. If you follow my Facebook page or Youtube channel, I shared it a few weeks ago.

August 1 – 7

Saturday – Sunday (8/3 – 8/4)

This was my first time visiting Taitung. I went with my boss for the weekend because his wife and kid were in Canada for vacation. We left early in the morning from Tainan and got to Taitung around 9 AM.

After stopping to see some cool beaches we visited this great restaurant near the Fugang Fishing Harbor (富岡漁港). Green Island is just a short ferry ride from the harbor. I haven’t been yet, but I plan on visiting soon.

After eating, we went to Sanxiantai (三仙台). This place was incredibly beautiful. We went off the trail and ended up walking around the island through the bushes and rocks. I wasn’t the best idea, but we got to see some sea cucumbers, fish, and a ton of crabs.

After visiting Sanxiantai, we drove north to Hualian. The plan was to go camping in the mountains. We drove through Taroko National Park (太魯閣國家公園). Unfortunately we got there right as the sun was going down, so I didn’t get to see the amazing scenery. But that only gives me another reason to go back.

After driving through the winding mountain road. We pulled into a rest area and set up camp. Instead of setting up the tent like we originally planned, we just put the bamboo mattresses in the back of the truck. I slept like a rock, probably because of the rice wine (米酒) I drank on the way there.

We made our way further into the mountains. The plan was to hike one of the mountains to the top. It was a lot harder than I expected. The face we climbed wasn’t even in the Top 100 Mountains of Taiwan which says a lot about how difficult it is without prior conditioning.

After hiking, we went to the Qingjing Farm (清境農場). I walked around by myself and went into the village. I had a great lunch and went to a local museum that had videos in English explaining the history of the farm.

August 8 – 15

The next weekend I went to Kending with my boss and a coworker to visit the aquarium and relax on the beach.

Saturday (8/10)

First, we went to the aquarium. It was really interesting and had some cool animals inside. I didn’t take any pictures, but you can see some of it in my vlog. Afterwards, we went to this local seafood restaurant and had some great food.

After lunch we went to the beach and relaxed for a few hours before heading to the Go Kart track. I’m proud to say I was the fastest out of the three. After racing, we went to the Kending night market and had some food.

August 16 – 23

I didn’t do a lot this week, but I did go to Yujing District (玉井區) in Tainan with my buddy to have some amazing mango ice cream and chicken. Afterwards, I took him to visit the Bat Cave waterfall. We tried to climb up the mountain to get to some of the other pools but couldn’t find them.

On the way down the slippery mountain, Po Wei fell down and had his ass covered in mud. I thought it was hilarious.

August 24 – 31

I didn’t do much this week. I just relaxed at home and worked on some interviews for the website. I published one with the Subs flip flop company. You can find it here.

My birthday was on the 28th. I had to work that day, but I met up with Po Wei again to have lunch.
