Tainan Bars and Nightlife: Lola蘿拉冷飲店
One of the hidden gems of Tainan, Lola蘿拉冷飲店 is located in the West Central District of Tainan near the Duiyuemen Gate (國定古蹟兌悅門). Named after the well-known song by the 1960-70s psychedelic rock band The Kinks. The bar is located in a renovated traditional Taiwanese home. When you walk into Lola’s, you’re greeted with a cozy lounge area where you can enjoy a drink away from the main room or browse the CDs and vinyl for sale. Local artists and musicians leave fliers and advertisements for upcoming gigs on the table and wall near the entrance.
When you walk into the main room, the first thing you’ll notice is the foreign or arthouse films being projected on the front wall. To give you an impression of what to expect, the bar shows films like Being John Malkovich (1999) and Buffalo ’66 (1998). They’re all muted, but have Mandarin subtitles.
The actual bar is tucked against a wall with a few available chairs if the place is busy. Most of the seating is comfortable lounge chairs with tables to set your food and drinks on. There is a small balcony located in the main room that you can sit and enjoy your drink or watch the movie that is being played.
The drinks are all reasonably priced and tend to be cheaper compared to other bars in Tainan. The food is great and the bar offers a variety of options to choose from. Lola is definitely worth visiting.
